So sometimes we'll undo an action, sometimes we'll redo it. Of course, on a Mac, you would guess, it's command + y. And anytime you undo an action and want to reconsider it, you undo the undo with Ctrl + y.

And you can, depending on other actions that you might have taken previously, undo a whole series of actions, moving backward in time, so to speak.
I might want to undo that action, Ctrl + z, undo it. Was it that one? Yeah, I think it was, but I'm not so sure. I want to refer to a different cell, and that other worksheet, I think, was actually H1. I'm making a change here to this formula. Ctr + z on Windows, command + z on the Mac.

And on the Mac, the actual control key plus tilde. Now in most keyboards, you will see this tilde symbol on a key, along with that other symbol called accent grave, you rarely will hear that being stated, but it's usually between the Escape and Tab keys, just to the left of the number one key on nearly all keyboards. It alerts you to a keystroke shortcut, but refers to the other symbol that's on that same key. There is a command here on the Formulas tab that does the same thing called Show Formulas. Same thing on the Mac, but there we use the control key, C-O-N-T-R-O-L. Press that again, Ctrl+~, we're back to normal. What happens? All column widths are doubled, but more important, wherever there's a formula, we see the formula, and that's really handy. I'm going to call it tilde because that's one of its names, but we don't have a universal name for that key there, but I'll press Ctrl+~, no Shift key. I'm going to use this shortcut here, and I've referred to it as Ctrl with that symbol. I'm trying to figure out what's going on. And if you're the worksheet troubleshooter in your organization, you'll find this invaluable. Display formulas or results, a viable tool, particularly if you work with formulas.
And let's talk about the actual shortcuts. On Windows keyboards, they're capitalized, the first letter is.

On Mac keyboards in general, everything is in lowercase. So in column E, we're seeing the same keystroke shortcut depicted with the symbols instead of the words. Some of the older keyboards didn't have the words on them. On most Mac keyboards these days, you'll see the symbol as well. In column D, we see the actual words that you'll see. And I've depicted the Mac keystroke shortcuts here, by the way, two ways. Also, the Alt key, we see it on Windows keyboards, we don't see that on the Mac, but from time to time, but certainly not always, the option key will become involved for the corresponding keystroke shortcut as used on the Mac. Two of the examples here, we see Ctrl + z, Ctrl + p, but on the Mac version, it's with the command key but using the same letters. There is a loose correspondence between using the Ctrl key on Windows and the command key on Mac, but it's certainly not foolproof. And anybody who works with Excel in the two versions is, if not constantly, at least frequently annoyed at the fact that the keystroke shortcuts are often not the same. Excel has any number of keystroke shortcuts, and it's hard to come up with a master list of which ones are best, but we're going to talk about five of them, and also contrast what those keystroke shortcuts are in the Windows version of Excel compared with those on the Mac version.
